Invitation to Artists

The Open Exhibition at Thoresby Gallery is now in its’ 12th year. Each year the number of exhibitors has increased and it has achieved a reputation for quality and scope. 

The Thoresby Open Exhibition is one of the few remaining competitions that still accepts the original work for presentation before the Selection Committee.

HOW TO ENTER
Artists are invited to submit up to three framed, two-dimensional works in any medium including oil, pencil, watercolor, pastel, etchings, photography and digital.  Pottery and ceramics are not eligible.

The Selectors require an original source of inspiration in preference to a photographic or copied original and pictures must be the original work of the artist on the submission form.

Deliver your pictures to Thoresby Gallery on Friday 5th or Saturday 6th September between 11.00am & 4.00pm.  Work will not be received before or after the sending-in days (with the exception of student submissions by arrangement with the Gallery).

The entry fee for submission is £4.50 (incl VAT) per picture (*£2.00 for students on production of a valid Student card). The fee, payable in cash or cheque, covers all handling and the administrative costs and is non refundable. There are no further hanging fees.
Cheques should be made payable to Thoresby Gallery.

Complete the entry form and picture labels provided at the point of delivery and attach the label to the front of the work where possible.

Provide a Stamped Address Envelope for return of results.

RESULTS
Selection will take place on Monday 8th September
Artists will be notified by post of their result by Thursday 12th September.
Any artist who has not been notified by last post on this date should contact Thoresby Gallery.

THE SMALL PRINT

RESTRICTIONS
All pictures;

• Are restricted to a maximum of 3ft x 4ft. in frame size.
• Must be framed and able to hang on the wall with a maximum depth of 2 1/2”.
• Metal frames and box canvases accepted.  Clip frames are not accepted.
• Must not carry screw eyes or any other projections.
• Must have properly secured D-rings attached and hanging cord. D-rings must be taped over to prevent damage to other pictures.

SALE OF WORK
All work must be for sale. 
All sales of, and payment for, exhibited work will be handled by Thoresby Gallery.
A commission of 30% including VAT will be charged. 
Your selling price should include the commission.
The balance will be remitted to the artist within approximately three weeks of the end of the exhibition.

COLLECTION OF WORK
All artists are responsible for the collection of any unsold work at the end of the exhibition. The official receipt for the pictures must be presented on collection.
The Gallery will send work by carrier, by arrangement with the artist, but will charge a handling fee of £5 plus the cost of the carrier for this service.
Work not selected for exhibition must be collected between Thursday 18 th September and Sunday 21st September only. 
Unselected work will be for sale in the 'Salon des Refuse's' in the Loft Studio on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14 th September.

LIABILITY
Works submitted to Thoresby Gallery are covered by our insurance against loss or damage to pictures, frames or glass once they are in our possession.
The artists are entirely responsible for their pictures during transit. Thoresby Gallery is not liable to refund submission fees for any reason.
The Selection Committee reserves the right to use their discretion in all matters concerning work submitted. Their decisions in all matters relating to the exhibition will be final and no correspondence can be entered into concerning selection of work.

All artists submitting work must accept the above conditions.
